5th Annual IIES Science and Policy Workshop

We are pleased to announce the 5th Annual IIES Science and Policy Workshop hosted this year by Korea University in Seoul, South Korea from November 13-14. Participants will gain insight into current research in environmental science, policy and planning, and will have the opportunity to meet colleagues from our partner institutions and from external universities and agencies. For students, this is a chance to share your research and build potential collaborative relationships at an international level. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the IIES 3rd Annual Graduate Student Forum (November 11-12) and IBI Biochar World Congress (November 10-14) both taking place at Korea University. Participants interested in attending both the workshop and forum must register for the forum separately on the IIES website. Students who want to receive IIES travel support to attend the Graduate Student Forum must attend the Annual Workshop.

  • Sustainable Management of Wastes
  • Circular Economies
  • Environmental Remediation: Recent Progress in technology, theory & management
  • Collaborative Research Within the IIES

PRESENTATION/ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS:  Participants may choose to present a poster presentation or a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation. Please submit an abstract for both talks and posters and indicate your preference and theme you will be presenting in. (Graduate Forum participants are not obliged to present at the workshop but if interested can choose either a 15-min talk or present a poster). 

REGISTRATION: The workshop is free of charge to all IIES members.

TRAVEL SUPPORT: IIES travel grants will be available to students from participating IIES institutions. Preference will be given to students who have not participated in past IIES activities.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Hotel rooms will be covered for IIES supported students during their attendance at the Graduate Forum and Annual Workshop. Graduate students will be staying at the Euljiro Co-op and Residences from November 10-15.

Faculty will be responsible for their own accommodations. Rooms have been blocked at the Hotel Splaisir Dongdaemun for four nights (November 11-15, 2019). The cost per night is 132,000 KRW (including breakfast).

IBI Biochar World Congress | November 10-14

Korea University and the Korea Biochar Research Center will host the Congress together with the International Biochar Initiative, Foshan University (China), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, UK Biochar Research Center, Cornell University (USA) and Shenyang Agricultural University (China). This event is separate from the IIES Annual workshop and Graduate Student Forum.

IIES members have been invited free of charge, to attend selected sessions at the Biochar World Congress. Members must register for the Biochar meeting prior to the event. Please visit the IBI website for registration and further details: http://biocharworldcongress.com/.

The IIES will provide travel support for all graduate students wishing to attend both the forum and the annual workshop. Students who wish to attend the workshop only will be responsible for their own travel expenses, however, these participants do not have to pay the workshop registration fee. IIES travel grants will be available to students from participating IIES institutions. Preference will be given to students who have not participated in past IIES activities.
