The IIES is pleased to welcome our newest member, the Université de Toulon in La Valette-du-Var, France. The MOU, signed in January 2024, between the IIES and the Université de Toulon aims to facilitate cooperation in the academic and research missions of IIES’s members in the areas of related circular economy studies, which contributes to the development of science, technology, and innovation between France and IIES Member countries.
About Université de Toulon
Research is a fundamental element of French universities. The Université de Toulon (UTLN) has nearly 300 professors/researchers and 15 dynamic and internationally recognized Research Units. UTLN’s 15 research laboratories are recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

The university’s Research Units regularly organize and participate in seminars and symposia and actively publish their research. Having a wide range of research programs is a valuable asset which facilitates an interdisciplinary approach. The three main areas of research at the Université de Toulon are:
- Sea, Environment, and Sustainable Development
- Information, Digital, Prevention
- Mediterranean Exchanges and Societies
The university has also long pursued a proactive policy of inviting foreign researchers. On average, it invites around fifty high-level researchers to stay for periods of 2 to 4 weeks. The quality of the laboratories’ international relations is partly the result of this policy. UTLN also supports research teams in difficulty when the existence of teaching and research programmes is not sufficient.
Research at the Université de Toulon is coordinated with neighbouring universities in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region. It shares five laboratories with Aix Marseille University and three laboratories with the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, as well as a shared development structure (Société d’Accélération du Transfert de Technologie – Sud Est) with all the universities in the PACA region, Corsica and the research bodies.
We look forward to potentially hosting a future workshop at the Université de Toulon in France. To learn more about the university, please visit the link below. You can also check out Université de Toulon’s faculty profiles on our membership page.
