The University of Toulon (IIES member since 2023) in collaboration with its Gabonese partners, is organizing Workshop on Organic Matter in Africa (WOMA2025). This workshop, which will take place from November 27 to 29, 2025 in Franceville, Gabon, aims to promote scientific exchange on African environmental issues.

During this event, a meeting will be held to establish a consortium of researchers, laboratories, and institutions to respond to the Belmont Forum’s call for proposals: Ocean 2 CRA – Towards the Ocean We Want: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Sustainability for Nature and Human Well-being.

Ocean 2 CRA is seeking proposals for transdisciplinary research projects which will address global ocean challenges and contribute to the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Projects are expected to last 3 years and to include research consortia with participants from multiple countries and disciplines.

Belmont Forum Proposal: Current & Future Collaborators

The University of Toulon, through its researchers, will lead the project proposal. Among the institutions that have already expressed interest in this initiative are the University of Masuku, Omar Bongo University, the University of São Tomé and Príncipe, the University of Mozambique, and the University of Toulon. Contacts are also underway with Cameroon, Brazil, and the Comoros. Currently, the disciplines involved are primarily geosciences, geography, microbiology, and biology. The University of Toulon and its collaborators are seeking partners in the fields of economics, social sciences, human-environment interactions, and, more generally, environmental sciences.

Proposals for Ocean 2 CRA are due March 5, 2026. If you would like to participate in this proposal submission with the University of Toulon and its partners in the nWOMA network, please contact Dr. Stéphane Mounier.
