Student Exchange Opportunity Available at Phenikaa University

Vancouver Community College (VCC), in partnership with University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP), has been awarded the prestigious Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships grants for their project: Addressing Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific – Leveraging University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) for Action.

This program, which runs from 2026 to 2027, provides students from eligible UMAP-member institutions the opportunity to go on a one-semester exchange at one of several UMAP host institutions including IIES Member, Phenikaa University in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Phenikaa University will host a 16-week program in the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 semesters at the Hanoi campus focused on Black Soldier Fly Applications in Reducing Municipal Organic Waste: A Climate-Smart Circular Economy Approach. A total of four exchange students will be hosted by Phenikaa University’s Environmental Chemistry & Ecotoxicology Lab.

Eligibility Criteria for Students:

  • Must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents                                                                  
  • Must be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application
  • Must be studying at an eligible UMAP Canada member institution
  • Must be able to communicate in English
  • Must not have previously received QES Funding
  • This scholarship is open to students attending an eligible UMAP Canada college, CEGEP, polytechnic or institute of technology (second, third, or fourth year students only) or attending an eligible UMAP Canada university (third or fourth year undergraduates only) or enrolled in a graduate program at any of the above institutions.
  • Students must remain enrolled at home institution throughout duration of their exchange (90-120 days) and must receive academic and/or co-curricular credit from their home institution upon completion of their exchange.

Number of UMAP-VCC QES scholarships: 4 scholarships available 

Funding for Students: Four students will be awarded 10.000$/student to cover all eligible expenses during their exchange.

Eligible expenses include:

  • Travel expenses – international airfare, the most direct and economical route, visas, medical insurance, immunization, ground transportation
  • Living allowance – including accommodation, local transportation, food, communications, and all other personal expenses
