Last month at the 7th Annual IIES Science & Policy Workshop held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from October 24-28, 2022, IIES was pleased to welcome Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) as our newest member. The MOU signed, aims to facilitate cooperation in academic research related to environmental problems and contribute to developing science and innovation between Vietnam and Canada.
Dr. Cathy Bruce, Chair of the IIES Board of Directors, signed the agreement alongside HCMUT President Professor Mai Thanh Phong and Vice-President International, Nguyễn Danh Thảo.
“The addition of Ho Chi Minh City UT as a member of the Institute is significant and will further our mission to promote environmental collaboration on a genuinely global scale,” said Dr. Bruce, who is Vice President, Research and Innovation at Trent University. “The IIES continues to grow its programming and in doing so expands its capacity to exchange knowledge and skills amongst its members. The environmental challenges we’re collectively facing requires just these kinds of partnerships.”
“To become a member of IIES, it brings a great deal of benefits to researchers and students of HCMUT. Its researchers and students not only join the IIES programs, but also have opportunities to make a relationship with other universities and members of the IIES network,” said Professor Vo Le Phu, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at HMCUT. “This means that more connections will be broadened and built up; more collaboration opportunities will also be deepened.”
With HCMUT joining the IIES network, we continue to expand our connection in Southeast Asia. Last year, the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), also in Ho Chi Minh City, joined IIES and co-hosted a virtual workshop on circular economy development.
IIES is committed to becoming a global leader in developing environmental resources and policies for managing environmental issues with international implications. We continue to offer in-person and virtual events to support this mission, including annual scientific workshops, graduate student forums, and online seminar series. These offerings enhance capacity, knowledge, and collaboration.
